Innovative Designs has had so much fun filming “House Hunters Renovation” with their amazing team of dedicated producers, designers and experts. Now that the show has aired and our watch party is over, it’s time to dish on all the things that helped bring this episode together.
“You Want to Install That?”
I love supporting local artists, so when I found “school bus yellow” cabinets at Troo Design with Patrick Lavery, I knew they were perfect for Laura and Steve. I was so excited about my find, but was quick to discover that no one else felt the same. I had a hunch that they would work well with the modern interior I had in mind. The cabinets went up as planned and, once they were installed, everyone – Laura and Steve included – fell in love with them! This is one risk that paid off in the end.
I received quite a surprise during filming when Laura and Steve announced they are pregnant with their first child! Michelle jumped on the opportunity to surprise the couple with a gender-neutral baby nursery. I took this opportunity to use an existing frame featuring a typecast letter alongside the year 2014, which is the year Laura and Steve got married. This is a personal touch that Laura and Steve’s new baby will be able to grow up with. He or she will always be reminded of the love their parents have for each other.
I am so proud to have worked with so many great brands and vendors right here in Lubbock. Among the amazing local professionals who contributed to the finished interior design are:
- Justin Poses, Premier Texas Realty (builder)
- Patrick Lavery, Troo Design (cabinets)
- The Galley (kitchen workstation)
- Patti Halstead, The Finishing Touch (wall art)
- Michele Christenson, Peacock’s Plumage (floral arrangements, succulents)
- Dawn Winter (contemporary abstract art)
- Jake Bryer (photography, fine art prints)
- Ty West, TWest Photography (photography)
I like to think the collaboration with these local artists is what sets Innovative Designs apart from other interior design firms. Lubbock has such a vibrant art community and each piece really brings the character of Texas into this home.
I would also like to thank Laura and Steve (and baby) for allowing me the opportunity to create something unique and special just for them. Check out the air schedule and catch the episode to see the results – only on HGTV.
